Successful leaders must work more than a step ahead these days. While adopting a multi-perspective approach to strategy that sees in all directions and anticipates the future doesn’t come naturally to many, it is something that can be developed.

We asked 11 coaches of Forbes Coaches Council how leaders might be able to expand their thinking when it comes to strategy. Here’s what they said.

Teach Them How To Cast A Vision

Not everyone is a big-picture thinker, but they can be taught how to see and establish a future vision. Let them know why it is important to visualize and forecast a desired future. Once they understand the why, teach them how to apply strategy mapping and planning to establish the roadmap for execution. We have to show them how to rethink and use their existing skills.  –  Jen Kelchner
